A Prayer for Peace
by Joel Stephen Williams
"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace
to men on whom his favor rests" (Luke 2:14).
You are the God who blesses his people with peace and establishes it among them. Lord God, you are peace.
Wonderful Christ, I praise you as the Prince of Peace. You are the king of peace. You were pierced for our transgressions and crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought us peace was upon you, and by your wounds we are healed. You reconciled to yourself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through your blood, shed on the cross. Lord Jesus, you are our peace. It is only in you that we find peace. Therefore, I declare, "Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!"
In human affairs there is a time for war and a time for peace. I pray that now will be a time of peace for all people. May those who do not know your peace be able to find it. Please, Lord, may there be peace and security within nations, within cities, within the church and within our homes. May peace flow among us like a river. May peace be upon our children and our grandchildren. I pray that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
In my own life very often I have no peace, no quietness; I have no rest, but only turmoil. Therefore, Lord, may your peace be upon me forever. As the God of hope, fill me with joy and peace. Jesus, give me peace. Lord, turn your face toward me and give me peace. Grant me your peace which transcends all understanding. Help me to love your law that I might find peace. May I find true wisdom so that I might walk in the path of peace. Bring me peace that I might find joy. May I live in peace so that my ways will be pleasing to you and you will make even my enemies live at peace with me.
God, through Jesus, please forgive my sins, so that I may be spotless, blameless and at peace with you. Help me to be a peacemaker, so that I might be like you. Help me to live at peace with others, because you have called us to live in peace. May I cultivate the fruits of the Spirit – including peace. Lord, I trust in you, so give me perfect peace.
I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety. Through the Prince of Peace to the God of peace. Amen.
